Guardians of the Galaxy (GotG) was a short comic series that certainly wasn’t as well-known by non-Marvel aficionados as other staples of the franchise like The Avengers. However, that didn’t stop the film from becoming a runaway hit. Largely to thank for that is writer and director James Gunn who penned both the first film and the second.
Fans of GotG can rejoice that everything that made the first film such a success (and we imagine the second film will do at least just as well), will continue into the third installment. Today, James Gunn announced that he will be once again taking up the pen and directors chair for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Along with Guardians of the Galaxy, Gunn has penned films such as The Belko Experiment and worked on the screenplay for 2002’s live-action adaptation of Scooby-Doo. He has also used his writing talents to pen the cheeky and colorful video game Lollipop Chainsaw which featured a zombie-slaying cheerleader who goes on a chainsaw-fueled quest to end the zombie apocalypse.
While we will have to wait quite some time for GotG Vol. 3, Vol. 2 will hit theaters on May 5.
