‘Injustice 2’ Release Date Announced

Without much of a big splash, as far as conventional marketing is concerned, Injustice 2 finally has a release date. Ed Boon dropped the date on his Twitter page with a simple yet impactful image. Check out his post below.

The announcement has been a long time coming. The Injustice: Gods Amongs Us follow up was revealed last May; since then, fans have received updates every so often regarding the growing roster. As of now, the following characters are confirmed as playable in the DC fighter: Batman, Supergirl, Superman, Blue Beetle, Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Atrocitus, Gorilla Grodd, The Flash, Aquaman, and Wonder Woman. This is likely only about half of what the full roster will look like on day one.

Potential DLC/guest characters such as Spawn and Mortal Kombat’s Sub-Zero have been teased. However, none of the inevitable additional content offerings are being discussed. The first batch of downloadable content could possibly roll out in June. Boon has already confirmed that fans should expect DLC to mirror what’s happening on the big screen. With Wonder Woman opening on June 2 and Justice League releasing November 17, DCEU character skins and a few additional fighters are certainly expected.

Another aspect of Injustice 2 that has yet to receive much attention is the story. The initial teaser trailer intimates the return of a tyrannical Superman, but NetherRealm remains silent on the details. A few other things we’re still in the dark on are the different game modes and new systems at work. The Gear System will play a huge part in differentiating itself from the first game in the series. This new feature allows players to obtain gear during matches to customize the look and equipment of their favorite characters. Here’s to hoping the Tag-Team mode introduced in MK9 finally makes its way to Injustice.

Injustice 2 launches on PS4 and Xbox One on May 16.
