With Microsoft’s E3 2016 press conference only days away, another leak has spoiled the unveiling of an open beta for Halo Wars 2. Thanks to a listing which popped up on the Xbox Store, spotted by Italian site MondoXbox and relayed by VideoGamer, it’s been revealed the sequel to top down real-time strategy game Halo Wars will be getting an open beta. The beta is set to begin on Monday 13 June, and run until the following Monday.
Halo Wars 2 was announced at last year’s E3, but has been quiet ever since. There has been rumblings of a gameplay demonstration and surprise announcement planned for Microsoft’s E3 conference this year, but it appears now that cat has been let out the bag revealing what exactly that surprise is.
The original Halo Wars was received positively when it launched exclusively on Xbox 360 back in 2009, with many helming it has the first successful real-time strategy game on a console. With that said, it took Microsoft six years to announce a sequel, which is under development at 343 Industries and Creative Assembly, as opposed to Ensemble Studios who closed their doors after the release of the original Halo Wars.
Halo Wars 2 is set for an autumn release on Xbox One and Windows 10 PC, but expect to hear more and an exact date at E3.
