Speculation and rumor has led much of the talk surrounding the Red Dead Redemption follow up. Earlier this year, the game’s alleged map was leaked online. Said leak also revealed a few supposed details regarding the setting and time in relation to Redemption. Fans held our hope for E3 and PlayStation Meeting reveals that never took place. Soon the spotlight was put on a rumored remaster for PS4 and Xbox One, which is also without confirmation.
Rockstar Games effortlessly led fans on further with a couple of teaser images, before finally announcing RDR 2 for next Fall. One such teaser, pictured above, offered information on the first trailer’s release date. That day has come, folks. Behold our very first look at Red Dead Redemption 2.

This is the ultimate tease if there ever was one, but damn if it isn’t great. The trailer offers no information as to which story we’ll be following or who our protagonist is. The train and other technology seen throughout the trailer could indicate the setting is during RDR, or shortly thereafter. It could also take place in the years prior to John Marston’s story arc. For all we know this could be circa 1865, around the end of the Civil War.
We’re also left with the question of who’s the man speaking towards the trailer’s end. Is he the player character, or someone within the story (friend or foe)? Could it be a young John Marston, perhaps his son Jack? Tell us your thoughts and theories in the comments below.
“Developed by the creators of Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption, Red Dead Redemption 2 is an epic tale of life in America’s unforgiving heartland. The game’s vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience.”
Red Dead Redemption 2 hits PS4 and Xbox One in Fall 2017. No details regarding a PC release have been announced at the time of writing.
