We’re getting our first looks at the cast of The Magnificent Seven, and when we say cast we mean all-star cast. It makes sense since this is a remake of a very highly-regarded classic. The Magnificent Seven released in 1960 had some pretty heavy hitters itself such as Steve McQueen, Yul Brynner, Charles Bronson and Eli Wallach. To add to its esteem, it was actually based on Seven Samurai by legendary filmmaker Akira Kurosawa. That’s the kind of awesomeness this remake has to live up to.

The film seems to already be on the right track, if these images are any indication. With star power like Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Vincent D’Onofrio, Matt Bomer, Ethan Hawke and Peter Sarsgaard it definitely has a lot of the right ingredients.

The official synopsis via Collider:

Director Antoine Fuqua brings his modern vision to a classic story in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures’ and Columbia Pictures’ The Magnificent Seven. With the town of Rose Creek under the deadly control of industrialist Bartholomew Bogue (Peter Sarsgaard), the desperate townspeople employ protection from seven outlaws, bounty hunters, gamblers and hired guns – Sam Chisolm (Denzel Washington), Josh Farraday (Chris Pratt), Goodnight Robicheaux (Ethan Hawke), Jack Horne (Vincent D’Onofrio), Billy Rocks (Byung-Hun Lee), Vasquez (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), and Red Harvest (Martin Sensmeier). As they prepare the town for the violent showdown that they know is coming, these seven mercenaries find themselves fighting for more than money.

According to JamesHorner-FilmMusic, director Antoine Fuqua had tapped James Horner to compose the film’s score, however Horner was killed in an airplane crash in June 2015. Fuqua later dilvulged (on NPR) he found out a month later that Horner had already secretly written the entire score. It will be the final posthumous score of Horner’s to be released.

“…his team flew out here, to Baton Rouge, and they brought me all the music for The Magnificent Seven. He already wrote it for me based on the script. He did it all off the script because he wanted to surprise me. I thought it was a gift or something. And they all came out here and said, ‘Antoine, James wrote the music for Magnificent Seven already and it’s just glorious.’ “

The Magnificent Seven will be in theaters September 23.
