Fortnite developer Epic Games decided to sue a 14-year-old child for cheating it’s newest multiplayer title in a suit that settled with the Battle Royale game’s developer.

This tale all started when the game developer became frustrated with the thousands of cheaters who were using the popular multiplayer mode so in cadence Epic Games began taking several cheaters to court to discourage users. This is what lead to the 14-year-old offend were has been issued a permanent injunction and will cost $5,000 in damages if breached.

The 14-year-old gamer is now strictly prohibited from injecting unauthorised computer code into the game or face financial punishment. The user had apparently been banned nine times before but has bypassed the account lock each time just by registering with the developer again. The player was suspected of writing his own cheat code and encouraging others to use it to create an unfair advantage in the game.

The defendant’s mother, who accused the developer of taking a minor to court and making their information public had her concerns addressed in a separate court case. According to the companies response earlier this week they had no idea of the cheater’s age when decided to sue the Fortnite user and have the mother confirm his name and age in her letter to the developer. Going forward the developer has promised to stick to using the 14-year-old’s initials rather than his full name to protect his privacy.

If anything it’s clear that Epic Games wants to keep Battle Royale feeling fun and fair judging by the effort they went through. With thousands of cheaters being banned and more notorious users going to court it looks like the developers are determined to bring balance, but do you think they’re going about it the right way?
