Jesse Eisenberg: Lex Luthor Returns in ‘Justice League: Part One’

The conclusion to Lex Luthor’s story arc in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice saw the billionaire genius shaved bald and locked away in prison for his crimes. Because of this, many, Jesse Eisenberg included, weren’t sure of whether or not the character would return in the near future. During a panel at MCM London Comic-Con, Eisenberg was able to lift the veil and revealed Lex Luthor will make another appearance, and soon.

“I’m kind of in wait,” the actor said, according to Digital Spy. “They just started filming Justice League, so I’m kind of, like, waiting for my crack at it. I don’t know what I’m allowed to say, because I feel like there’s probably some drone following me from DC, and if I say anything wrong I get, you know, picked off.”

So far, all we know to expect from Justice League: Part One is the quest of Batman and Wonder Woman to find other metahumans, namely Aquaman, Flash, and Cyborg, in an attempt to unite a force capable of fighting whatever is coming to Earth. Speculation, as well as a few hints, suggests that fight has something to do with Darkseid. Although, a recent report claims he won’t be the film’s main villain — the honor will instead fall to his nephew, Steppenwolf, who may or may not have been the creature awakened by Lex Luthor in the Communion deleted scene.

Batman v Superman Communion deleted scene

That deleted scene potentially offers a tease at what path Luthor will follow in Justice League, as he probably aided in the advent of the impending threat Bruce Wayne speaks of near the end of Batman v Superman. There are a number of different ways it could go; tell us your thoughts and theories in the comments below.

Justice League: Part One opens in theaters November 17, 2017.
