Disney have issued their release schedule running from May 2017 through November 2021, and it is vast. Understandably, given the fact that Disney now covers LucasFilm, Pixar, and Marvel as well, the list of movies is varied, and some are still untitled given how far into the future the schedule runs. There are also some dates on the list (see below, via Twitter), that we already knew about. However, there’s also some release dates set for some major movies, such as Star Wars Episode IX, Indiana Jones, and Frozen 2.

Disney have six more movies listed to release this year, the highlight of which is undoubtedly Star Wars: The Last Jedi in December. There’s also the fifth installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise; Dead Men Tell No Tales, and the Disney original movie, Coco, based on the Day of the Dead celebrations.

Moving into 2018, Marvel will kick off proceedings with Black Panther, starring Chadwick Boseman and Luptia Nyong’o. There are also two other Marvel movies slated for 2018; Ant-Man and The Wasp, and what will easily be one of the biggest movies of the year; Avengers: Infinity War. From LucasFilm we have the Han Solo Star Wars Anthology movie, starring Alden Ehrenreich. But Disney themselves also have a super-impressive lineup which includes A Wrinkle in Time, Pixar’s The Incredibles 2, a live-action Mulan remake, Wreck-it Ralph 2, and the highly anticipated Mary Poppins Returns. It’s safe to say 2018 will be a bumper year for the House of Mouse.

Moving into 2019, and while we’ll all be getting older, Disney show no signs of slowing. Once again Marvel start the year, with Captain Marvel, starring Brie Larson. Though Larson will have already made her debut in Infinity War, this will be her first solo outing. 2019 also has the release of Marvel’s fourth Avengers movie, which again, is set to star a massive MCU ensemble cast. All of that, plus the release of Star Wars: Episode IX, which will be highly anticipated. It will certainly be interesting to see how the box office figures compare for Star Wars and Avengers.

2019 also holds the release of Toy Story 4, and Frozen 2, which you may or may not be excited about, depending on your love or loathing of the original. Either way, that’s a very strong animated lineup, which is further backed by no less than 4 untitled Disney live-action movies. These spots, plus the one in 2018, will most likely be filled by Dumbo, Aladdin, the untitled Christopher Robin movie, Cruella, and The Little Mermaid. Although, given that Disney are remaking practically their whole back catalog, there are several other possibilities (including Maleficent 2, Jungle Book 2, and Pinocchio).

The live-action Lion King remake also gets a 2019 release date of July, which should nicely secure the family market during the school summer break. Directed by Jon Favreau, it’s already confirmed that James Earl Jones will once again provide the voice of Mufasa, while Donald Glover will be the adult Simba. It’s now also reported (via The Wrap) that Seth Rogen will play Pumbaa, while Billy Eichner voices Timon. The duo are used to working together, and should easily be able to deliver the comedic element of both characters and their relationship.

Into 2020, and this is where the titles begin to become unknown. Pixar have 2 releases set, Marvel have 3, and surprisingly, there’s only one Disney live-action remake set, for April. Two movies are worthy of note in that lineup, though; Indiana Jones, which moves back a year from 2019, to accommodate Steven Spielberg’s schedule, and Gigantic, the Disney fairytale based on Jack and the Beanstalk. That movie has been shifted back by 2 full years, which is something of a surprise.

Finally, in 2021, so far there’s one Pixar, one Disney animation, and one live-action Disney movie slated. Rest assured, though, that list will grow, especially once Marvel decide which direction they’re heading in after Avengers 4. There’s also LucasFilm, who will most likely continue to expand the Star Wars universe, and of course, the never ending list of Disney live-action remakes.
