The Defenders: Madame Gao Confirmed to Appear

The Defenders: Madame Gao Confirmed to Appear

This content has been archived. It may no longer be relevant

Throughout Daredevil season 2 and Iron Fist, the small, elderly, yet utterly terrifying Madame Gao has made quite the name for herself. However, though we know The Hand will feature in The Defenders this summer, there was no confirmation of Madame Gao’s return, until Mike Colter, who plays Luke Cage, made a slip up.

The error happened during a panel at Comicpalooza in Houston. Colter was appearing with Finn Jones (Iron Fist), and the moderator asked them to name the cast members in The Defenders. Both said they weren’t allowed to speak about that, so instead, they started talking about who was in the recently released trailer. An audience member called out “Madame Gao,” and Colter then confirmed that, saying “We saw Madame Gao in the trailer. Gao’s in it.”

Except, of course, Madame Gao doesn’t appear at all in the trailer, and her appearance in The Defenders hadn’t yet been revealed. The news was delivered via MCU Exchange, who rightly point out that the news is hardly surprising and in fact, Madame Gao being in The Defenders is entirely logical, given her involvement with The Hand. The question is, will she have connections to Alexandra, played by Sigourney Weaver?

Elsewhere, a new image from the show has arrived, courtesy of Empire. Showing all four heroes in an elevator; Luke Cage (Colter) Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Daredevil (Charlie Cox), and Iron Fist (Jones), the picture ties into both the very first teaser we got for the show, and the trailer. In the teaser, which revealed the premiere date, our four vigilantes were in an elevator together, and in the trailer, we see Jessica telling Matt he looks stupid with her scarf tied around his head.

As with all of Marvel’s Netflix offerings, plot details are purposely vague for The Defenders, but even so, it’s a highly anticipated mini series for many, and the chance to see all of these uniquely talented individuals coming together to fight crime. Their teamwork might be with some reluctance, but you know they’ll be awesome, and it will be interesting to see the dynamic between all four.

The Defenders arrives on Netflix from August 18th.
