The X-Men team over at Fox really wants their franchises to crossover with the MCU. Who wouldn’t? X-Men producers recently discussed their desire to see an Avengers and X-Men crossover on the big screen, but that isn’t all they’re hoping to tackle. Deadpool director, Tim Miller, has been offering plenty nuggets of information while on the press tour for his film’s upcoming Blu-ray/DVD release.
Now he’s revealing his want of a Deadpool/Spider-Man crossover. Awesome, right? The kicker, though, is that he and producer Simon Kinberg have already begun laying the ground work for such a venture to be made possible. “[We] have been trying to build bridges,” he said.
Kinberg adds that the deals between Sony and Marvel/Disney may be their way in. âWith all of the deals that have recently started happening, we asked if they could get visitation rights to Sonyâs friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. I would love to see it. Both of us are close with Kevin [Feige], we respect and love Kevin. If it were even remotely possible, we will find a way âcause weâd would love to see it.â
While the crossover would seem within the realm of possibility, especially since Marvel and Sony made it work, Comicbook.com notes it may be increasingly more difficult. Bringing the webslinger into the MCU was probably a massive struggle, a crossover featuring the Merc with the Mouth would mean Deadpool too is a character in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe. That’s three studios coordinating various deals and trying to build one cohesive narrative on top of an already complicated set-up. Unfortunately, this crossover may not be as likely as we would hope.
You can get a look at Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War on May 6 and bring home Deadpool on May 10.
