Since the day the film launched in theaters, its sequel has been teased. The ending credits sequence hinted at the follow-up and teased that Cable and others could be along for the ride should the studio move forward with their plans. Today at CinemaCon, 20th Century Fox made it abundantly clear — the Merc with the Mouth will mount his return in Deadpool 2.
Additionally, it was announced director Tim Miller and screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick would also be returning for the project; of course, the Merc himself, Ryan Reynolds, is on board. As mentioned above, the already kind of confirmed addition of Cable was officially announced as well.
In a recent interview with Hitfix, discussing the then hypothetical Deadpool sequel, Reese teased how Cable would be involved.
“There’s a lot of fun in that he’s very serious and he does take on more serious weighty issues than Deadpool’s used to taking on, so I think there’s a juxtaposition there that can be fun. We had a lot of fun with Colossus in the first movie, just by virtue of him being a foil to Deadpool, being a goody-two-shoes and a straight shooter and Deadpool being irreverent. And I think Cable offers us the opportunity to provide another really cool, different foil for Deadpool.”
It is probably safe to assume that this will play a part in the film when it’s eventually released. Tell us what you think in the comments below. Who do you want to play Cable — Keira Knightley, Ron Perlman, Stephen Lang?
