According to the Classification and Rating Administration, Batman v Superman’s Blu-Ray release will launch with an R-rated counterpart, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition. In a note on the document, the following is stated: “Edited version. Content is different from PG-13 [theatrical] version.” Reportedly, the R rating is for “sequences of violence.”
If the creative team behind the upcoming Batman: The Killing Joke animated film moves ahead with WB’s previously given permission, this won’t be the only R-rated movie featuring the Bat to release this year.
This also won’t be the Dark Knight’s first go-around with a “mature” rating outside of comics. Last year, Rockesteady released their finale to the critically acclaimed Batman Arkham video game series. The final game of the trilogy, Batman Arkham Knight, released with a “Mature” rating, the first of the series; that rating was also the result of the variety of violent sequences.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice arrives in theaters March 25, 2016.
