With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 set to release this weekend in the U.K. and next weekend in the U.S., Marvel are once again going to be topping the global box office. It’s hardly a surprise; Marvel movies are highly anticipated by many, and perhaps none more so than Avengers: Infinity War, which will arrive in 2018.

The Avengers have been the cornerstone of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), but after the events of Captain America: Civil War, they are still at odds with one another. Meanwhile, The Guardians of the Galaxy continue on their own schedule, but everyone is soon to unite in an effort to stop Thanos from finding all the Infinity stones. The cast list for Infinity War is huge, including Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk, and Josh Brolin as Thanos. And that’s barely scratched the surface.

Basically, everyone who’s anyone in the MCU will appear in Infinity War, and speaking to Fandango, Marvel boss Kevin Feige says that the movie will be unlike any comic book movie ever made:

“It’s more exciting than people are aware of right now, with what’s happening [on Infinity War]. We’re doing things you’ve never seen before with films based on comics.”

Feige also says that owing to the elaborate plot and enormous cast, the production schedule for Infinity War is much longer than it would be for a regular movie:

“We’re deep into shooting; we’ve been shooting for 35 days. On most movies you’re almost halfway there after 35 days, but on these movies we’re still just scratching the surface. We’ll be filming through the end of the year.”

Following on from Infinity War, production will begin on Avengers 4, which, contrary to earlier reports this week, does not have an official title as yet. It’s assumed, though not confirmed, that Avengers 4 will follow on from Infinity War, possibly in a culmination of the Thanos versus the Avengers storyline.

While it will be great to see Thanos trying to assemble the Infinity stones, the best element of the movie will see all the different Marvel factions coming together, setting aside personal differences, in order to save the Galaxy.

Avengers: Infinity War will release on May 4th, 2018, and Avengers 4 will arrive on 3rd May, 2019.
