According to recent reports by ScreenRantAquaman has cast its 9 year-old Arthur Curry. The young Atlantean will be played by Kaan Guldur.

The news came courtesy of Twitter user The Aquaman Shrine, who announced that Kaan Guldur would be playing the 9 year-old version of Curry. The young actor is known for his role in the short Red Ink and will also have a role in The Lego Ninjago Movie. Kaan will be joining Otis Dhanji, previously cast as 13 year-old Arthur, to portray the young character growing up.

In previous reports, DCEU executive producer Charles Roven explained that the Aquaman solo film will not be an origin story and revealed the film takes place after the events of Justice League. It will be interesting to see how much of the young actors we actually see in the film. With the film not being an origin story, it’s a safe bet to assume we will see young Arthur, portrayed by both Guldur and Dhanji, in a series of flashbacks.

Aquaman also cast Michael Beach (The 100, Sons of Anarchy) in the role of Jesse Kane. There is speculation that Beach’s character is also the father Adbul-Mateen’s Black Manta. In the New 52 reboot for DC, Black Manta’s father was accidentally killed by Aquaman and Manta sought revenge for his father’s death. This could serve as the potential catalyst for the rise of Black Manta, who is Aquaman’s arch nemesis.

Beach and Guldur are joining an already considerable ensemble of actors including Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Patrick Wilson, Nicole Kidman, Dolph Lundgren, and Willem Dafoe. The film is directed by James Wan (Saw, Insidious, Furious 7).

DC’s Aquaman is slated to open in theaters late next year on December 21, 2018.
