Arcana Studios announced yesterday an animated film adaptation of Bruce Brown’s Howard Lovecraft and the Frozen Kingdom. The book is the first in a series of graphic novels about a boy with a book and his pet.
Of course, the book is the Necronomicon, the pet is an elder God and the boy is a young H.P. Lovecraft.
Brown’s tale is a fictional backstory for Lovecraft, who’s works have been used as basis for films such as Evil Dead and In the Mouth of Madness. Still, here has yet to be a mainstream version of his Cthulhu Mythos that has crossed over into mainstream culture. Maybe this movie will change that and get the youth of today into the Necronomicon much like the Lord of the Rings movies made youngsters want to be wizards and stop shaving their feet a decade ago.
Ron Perlman of Hellboy and Sons of Anarchy and Christoper plummer of The Sound of Music and Dragnet the Movie will be providing voices. Ron Perlman is in the role of Shoggoth so if you either are a fan of Lovecraft or Perlman’s voice you know that means this has potential to be good.
According to Arcana Studio’s press release, Howard Lovecraft and the Frozen Kingdom is to be released fall 2016 across major entertainment platforms and in packaged media. In other words, right to video.
