On their blog, the Facebook-owned sharing service announced that in the near future users would be able to watch, record, and post videos up to 60 seconds in length. Starting today, the new initiative will roll out and in the coming months everyone will have access to it.
According to the post, in the last six months, the time people have spent watching videos has seen an exponential growth of 40 percent. Longer videos are sure to allow for a different variety of content from fan favorite accounts. That isn’t all. “For iOS, we’re also bringing back the ability to make videos out of multiple clips from your camera roll,” the post mentioned stating that the feature would be a part of Instagram iOS version 7.19. There was also a slight tease hinting that “this is one step of many you’ll see this year.”
Whatever else the photo and video service has planned remains to be seen, but if it’s to be a step up from this announcement, users are probably in for a treat.
