In an interview about his upcoming movie 10 Cloverfield Lane, J.J. Abrams answered the one question on the minds of Cloverfield fans everywhere, “Will it be the same monster we saw in 2008?”

Without pulling any punches, Abrams says no.
“The story of this movie – and it came to us originally as a spec that was very different in a lot of ways and an unrelated thing altogether – is definitely about different kinds of monsters,” he says. “And while the Cloverfield monster isn’t in this movie, there’s a new monster and there’s something else that happens… but I don’t want to ruin the ending.”

Ruin the ending? For some I’m sure Abrams ruined the beginning and middle as well. While we can hope for lightning to strike twice with the name Cloverfield, having the two movies be associated with “multiple connections”, as J.J. puts it, might not be enough for fans of the original.

I myself am holding judgement on whether a new monster is a good thing until March 11 when 10 Cloverfield Lane is released in theaters.
